Character

Susan

40’s /50's

All or some below, plus last speech

An unassuming women in her forties, used to and happy to play 2nd fiddle to more determinedly motivated personalities. Only now at this stage of her life, is she beginning to question this role she’s played or perhaps cast in. Should be credible mother to 20 year old son.

Bill, her doctor

Year or two younger

P 1 – 2;

P 41 – 42

Pleasant, rather nervous GP. Eager to reassure, quick to apologise for his shortcomings. Not although, alas, an instinctive healer of the sick

Gerald, her husband

Middle 40’s

P 10 – 12

Reverend Gerald Gannet, a solemn man. As seen through Susan appears locked in his own world and obsessed his book, a local history.

Muriel, her sister in law

Late 40's /

early 50's

P 14 – 16

Short, dark, angular, grim looking in a rather firm sort of way. A women who has known her share of suffering and is anxious other should know about it too. Gerald & Muriel (as seen through Susan), present an unattractive picture, lacking the lightness and ease of her “other” family.

Rick, her son

20's (flexible)

P 31 – 33

Imaginary Family

Andy, her husband

Year or two younger (than Susan)

P 39 – 40

P 27 – 29

A tall, good looking, athletic man, easy going and charming. Ash note - Heights not important, but should contrast with Gerald as an “ideal” figure”

Tony, her brother

30’s

P 27 – 29

A tall, good looking, athletic man, easy going and charming. Ash note - Heights not important, but should contrast with Muriel as an “ideal” figure”

Lucy, her daughter

20’s

P 20

P 27 – 29

A tall, good looking, athletic girl, easy going and charming. Ash note - Heights not important, but should contrast with Rick as an “ideal” figure”

NOTES ABOUT AUDITIONS

We are always keen to welcome new members and all our auditions are open to anyone.

Be prepared for your audition. Find out what the audition pieces are and ask the Director how they see a particular part being played.

All auditionees for a singing part in a musical will be asked to demonstrate that they can sing and follow a short dance routine. Bring a song that shows off your range if you haven't got an audition piece, and make it a piece that you know well. A good confident rendition of something you know well is better than a weak attempt at something you don't really know.

A cast is decided on their audition, and the final decision is the Director's. If you ask the Director why you were not cast, you will get an honest answer and helpful criticism.

If you are dyslexic or have a problem with sight reading, contact Helen (tel. Rugby 575833) and let her know well before the audition. She will get you an audition piece as soon as possible and will give you any help you may need.
