About

Are you Rugby Theatre's Maria?

For our spectacular 70th anniversary production we are looking for someone special to play the part of Maria in The Sound of Music.

Maria is feisty with bursts of joy; a stubborn nature; empathetic with unhappy children. She is not just sweet and compliant, but a complex mix of emotions.

Rehearsals commence at the beginning of September.

Show dates:

Fri 6th Eve
Sat 7th Eve
Sun 8th Matinee (2pm)
Mon 9th Eve
Tue 10th NO SHOW
Wed 11th Eve
Thurs 12th Eve
Fri 13th Eve
Sat 14th Eve
Sun 15th Matinee

Given the extended run of 9 performances, we need a Maria who is full of energy and stamina, with an unwavering commitment to this production. The show is heavily reliant on her motivation throughout.

Requirements

Maria should be a believable 21 year old, but can be played by an older, more experienced actress – within reason!

Voice: B below middle C to top G. Must be able to lead and hold harmonies. Guitar playing a bonus but not essential if willing to learn.

Songs: The Sound of Music (whole song), The Lonely Goatherd (from start to bar 27). These songs can be found on the right hand side of the page.

The audition begins at 2pm, with registration from 1pm. Singing audition for all, followed by further singing and acting audition for those invited back.

Call backs on Wed 6th March.
